Been working on this one for a while… A 28 Page Photo Zine featuring digital and film shots from the recording of Girl Band’s new album - ‘The Talkies’ - which is out now on Rough Trade Records… It also incorporates the Album and Single Artwork designs from Damien Tran, lyrics from the album and rundown of the gear used during the recording in its design… There is 200 of these Limited Edition Hand Signed and Numbered A4 Zines… Printed on Silk Paper Stock (300gsm Cover Pages & 130gsm Inside Pages) and available on the Euro Leg of the tour and for the 2 night run in Vicar Street… Weird that it got delivered on the same date we started the record the year before…
Made these out of my iPhone Panos from The Content Holiday @ The Mansion Sessions and Rough Trade ended up printing a thousand of them for the lads to sign for a Pre Order Exclusive… Big Thanks to all at RT… The prints look great and I’ve just got my full set… I created a Font out of Dara’s handwriting for these and other uses yet to be seen… I will post all these iPhone Post Cards at some stage and I’m still proud that they were the first glimpse into the long awaited and critically acclaimed new Girl Band record, are currently used for the GB website and printed by RT for this exclusive run…
‘The Talkies’ is finally out today on Rough Trade Records... These are the secret Dust Cover Hasselblad shots... This album is another Masterpiece from Girl Band and I'm honoured to have been involved...
Photo's shot over a period of 3 years. Demo's at home. Main tracking days in the The Meadow in Wicklow. Additional mixing in Westland Studios in Dublin. Final mix and editing back at home again.
This was the first bunch of music related photos I ever took. They were taken during initial writing and tracking sessions for Solar Bears second album Supermigration. The snaps were subsequently used for a feature on the lads writing process and as general press shots following the release of their first album, She Was Coloured In, on Planet MU back in 2010.
Photos from the first big album production I covered… No Spill Blood’s debut album - Heavy Electricity… Big thanks to the lads for letting stick cameras in their face during the making of this seminal record… Thanks to Sargent House for pushing all these as part of the campaign…
Photos shot during the making of Girl Band's debut record.
'Holding Hands With Jamie' was recorded in a month long lock-in at Liam Mulvaney's now defunct Bow Lane Studios (Dublin) back in 2015. The album was written and produced by the band and recorded by Dan Fox and Jamie Hyland.
Released on Rough Trade Records to critical acclaim.
The Rednecks made a triumphant return to gigging at the Salty Dog a few months previous to this sold out show at Whelans last year. They have a new album on the way which they did with Dave Odlum in Attica Studios. There is another sold out Whelans show tomorrow night.
We should all be at the gigs of the year with Thee Oh Sees right about now but we aren’t so here is the stuff from last year… They blew the roof off the Button Factory… It was gig of the year - no doubt… The best live band on the planet - for sure… Another stellar booking by U:Mack, Leauges & Aiken Promotions… I look forward to their return… Here is the Joints and Pinners from the show… Legends…
Photos from another big Deaf Bros production - Alarmist's first full length album - Popular Demain.
The record was put together in short stints over a few months and every bit of gear in The Meadow was used at some stage.
Released by Small Pond in 2015.
The Altered Hours just dropped a new tune, a slew of live dates and the details of their new EP . Here are snaps from one of their (always impeccable) live shows at Knockanstockan a couple of years ago. The new EP, On My Tongue, was recorded by my good buds Dan Fox and Jamie Hyland (the Girlband production duo) and will released by Penske Recordings & Art For Blind Records.
Snaps from Ty Segall and Freedom Band ripping the now demolished Tivoli Theatre apart around this time a couple of years ago… One of my favourite U:Mack gigs ever… There is a live album of this lineup, recorded earlier that year, by Steve Albini that sounds amazing….
That time that Ivan Jackman brought Kevin Godley and Chad Channing down to The Meadow to record and shoot Chad drumming for Godley's WWB app.
Chad was nothing but lovely and it was great to see him sitting behind our mid 70's Rogers.
I've been lucky to meet Kevin a good few times at this stage, through my good friend Ivan, who setup this day. Kevin is a real pioneer. He is always ahead of the game.
Sunn O))) played the Button Factory last summer and were kind enough to let me hang around and shoot a bunch of gear porn... Big thanks to Sunn O))), Stephen O’Malley and Southern Lord Recordings for sharing all that stuff this time last year... Big thanks to U:mack for another stellar booking...
Photo's cover the initial 3-5 days to complete basic instrumentals for Dissociation Mechanics, another couple of overdub nights and 3 late night vocal sessions with Moose.
This was the best & worst gig of 2015. Comprising of members of Girl Band, Meltybrains? and Beach to name a few - Maths + Maths = Maths is a improvised kraut-rock ensemble that has done about three gigs. This was the first one, it was in the Bernard Shaw and it was hilarious, ramshackle and at times - pretty brilliant.
Percolator launched Sestra last year to critical acclaim. These snaps are from the Dublin Album Launch in the Bello Bar. Sestra was top of the Thin Air's Best Irish Albums of 2017. Guerrilla Studio's had three of the top four records in said list so it was a pretty good year for Spud and Chestnutt. Percolator play the Quarter Block Party in Cork tomorrow night.
Graham Hopkin's toured the coffee shops of Ireland last year giving masterclasses about drums and drumming. I was at the Dublin Drum Hang with him and got a few snaps. He was joined on the night by the stellar Lorcán O'Dwyer (from Too Fools) on bass and Gerry McDonnell (Hansard's long time live engineer).
Was lucky to get to hang around the Ensam sessions with Kevin Brady and Ivan Jackman at The Meadow back in 2015. The Kevin Brady Trio featuring Bill Carrothers have been playing together for over a decade and Ensam also featured renowned jazz vocalist Norma Winstone. Big thanks to Kevin for also putting some of the snaps in the artwork of Ensam which was released on LRP Records back in 2016.
Snaps from All We Are's first Salty Dog Secret Show. This was around the time of the release of their first, Self-Titled album, released by Domino Records. AWA returned to do another Secret Salty show last year.
All We Are's first Dublin headline show, at The Workman's Club, around the time of the first album release on Domino Records.
Snaps from All We Are's first Picnic appearance. AWA have had a great relationship with the Other Voices crew ever since and played the Church later that year. This was all around the time of their first release on Double Six / Domino Records. AWA returned to the Picnic last year after the release of their second album - Sunny Hills.
ASIWYFA were playing the Metro when I was over with NSW covering the making of their second album with Steve Albini in Electrical Audio. We all busted down to the gig and I did a few snaps for the lads and Cathy at Sargent House. It was a nice meeting of the Irish music scene in Chicago and it was great to catch up with the lads from ASIWYFA and Chris Le Dantec who was engineering for them on the US tour.
New Gods final release, Weird War Tales, which was tracked in The Meadow by Tommy O'Sullivan with a little help from myself. RIP New Gods. This EP is the bands tombstone and also saw the death of one of my favourite amps - a late 60's Solid State Silvertone Bass Head. It was released by Distroy back in 2016.
This ended up being the last gig Princess ever played (as far as I remember anyways). Great band that was on the verge of bigger things. RIP Princess.
This was one of the best gigs I've been at in a long time. Show Me The Body are a hardcore band from NYC. Their debut record, Body War, is amazing and pretty much describes what goes on at their shows. Go see these S.M.T.B.
First full roll of film I shot during a session. 35mm shots from the making of Meltybrains? - Kiss Yourself EP at The Meadow with Deaf Bros. Heavily processed the film scans after the fact - to match the digital collection of shots from the sessions which will appear at some stage soon.
Snaps from Trenchurian supporting Dillinger Escape Plan at their last ever Irish show at The Academy in 2017. All hardware set. Sounded absolutely savage on the Academy's system.
I was out in The Meadow shooting one of the final recording sessions for Old Hannah's new record and had just got this Hasselblad. These are the first couple of test shots I did with it. Old Hannah launch the first single (Follow) from this new album this day next month at The Grand Social. This album sounds amazing and is quite a departure from the old Old Hannah.
Three of my most favourite people in the world released their debut album today. I hung out at early Wyvern Lingo sessions at The Meadow with Rían. It was a some of the nicest few days I've ever had in a studio and I hope Wyvern win the Choice Prize for best song - I Love You Sadie. Big congrats to everyone in Lingoland - onwards and upwards - world domination etc.
Photos of Wild Rocket playing the Workman's Club back in 2016. These were used to hype the (U:Mack) album launch gig for their second record, Disassociation Mechanics, which was recorded by Rían and myself (AKA Deaf Brothers) and available on Vinyl and CD from Art For Blind Records.
Snaps from a Robocobra headline show in the Black Box, Belfast, a couple of years ago. I have a lot of time for this band and their output. These snaps and the HyperLapse I put together from them were used as promo material for a sizeable UK & Irish Tour of their first full length LP, Music For All Occasions, which was released back in 2016.
Holly asked me to do a quick portrait for her press stuff. It was a sunny day in Portobello. This was my pick of the bunch.
Photos from the Paddy Hanna recording sessions for Frankly, I Mutate with Dan Fox and Jamie Hyland. Photo's shot on numerous days and nights in Bow Lane - which has recently been demolished. Album is out from March 2nd, 2018, on Strange Brew.
Ensam was released on LRP Records and launched in JJ's back in 2016. These snaps are from this gig. The Kevin Brady Trio featuring Bill Carrothers have been playing together for over a decade and Ensam also featured renowned jazz vocalist Norma Winstone. I got to also hang around the Ensam sessions with Kevin Brady and Ivan Jackman during the making of this album at The Meadow back in 2015.
Few snaps from Crowhammer at Whelan's last year. They play London with Percolator and Hands Up Who Wants To Die this weekend for a Paddy's Day invasion of the Irish which I wish I was going to to take photos. I'm hoping the Crowhammer debut LP will be out soon. I helped Ian from Percolator get the bare bones of that recorded in Guerrilla Studios a long time ago, Fingers crossed it gets finished soon.
Few snaps from an ancient Percolator gig in Central Hall with Crowhammer. They play London with Crowhammer and Hands Up Who Wants To Die this weekend for a Paddy's Day. London Peeps... Go.
Rían and myself recorded All Tvvins down in The Meadow for their first video release way back when. These are some snaps from the Setup and Soundcheck that day. I'll drop the best stuff from the shoot tomorrow. All Tvvins play another sold out show at the Olympia this Friday.
Rían and myself recorded All Tvvins down in The Meadow for their first release way back when. These are some photos from the shooting later that night. All Tvvins play another sold out show at the Olympia this Friday.
My old friend John Smith played Whelan's late last year for Turning Pirate. These are some of my favorite shots from that gig. He is currently back in Ireland for a series of gigs with Graham Hopkins - another good buddy of mine. John and Graham play Whelan's tomorrow night. Get down and see two of the best in the business together on stage.
These are photos of Melts recording Skyward down in The Meadow late last year. The first tracks are getting great press and have had airplay on the Paul McLoone Show. Nialler9 premiered the video I did for Skyward and there has been great reviews from the likes of the The Thin Air and The Last Mix Tape. Melts play their first headline show in Whelan's next week.
Niall McCormack recently exhibited a small collection of the Posters he has produced for Timo and U:Mack over the past 24 years. The quality of Niall’s design perfectly reflects the calibre of the shows and artists they are promoting. These are some snaps from the Solo show at The Bernard Shaw a couple of months ago.
Come On Live Long are on the shortlist for this year's Choice Music Award. They will be playing at the ceremony tomorrow night in Vicar Street. A good chunk of In The Still was recorded at The Meadow last year. Great news for all involved and good luck on the night. These snaps are from the Album Launch in Whelan's late last year.
No Spill Blood play the The Grand Social this Saturday... Gonna drop whatever gig stuff I have over the next couple of days... My band Deborah will be support on the night... These are photos from No Spill at The Bello Bar ages ago… HyperLapse from that gig can be reached at the link at the bottom of this page or in the Video Section
Photos from No Spill Blood at The Twisted Pepper a few years ago. No Spill Blood play the The Grand Social this Saturday with Deborah supporting. No Spill also play Raw Power at the end of the month.
Photos of No Spill Blood launching Heavy Electricity at The Workman’s Club. Heavy Electricity was the first production Rían and myself did together and was the inception of Deaf Brothers - so its a really important record for me.
Loved working on the album and I am heavily indebted to the lads for letting shove cameras in their face throughout so I could chop together my most elaborate studio making of.
No Spill play the The Grand Social this Saturday with Deborah supporting and play Raw Power at the end of the month.
Was a pleasure working on this Live Rig Rundown for Musicmaker with Oisin Trench, Nigel Kenny and Goose Quack just before Dermot Kennedy’s sold out gig at the Olympia Theatre a while back…
Finished some snaps for Rob Walsh and the Panik Attaks recently... These photos are from a Dice Bar gig a couple of months ago... Stellar lineup backing Rob’s new tunes here (Mik Pyro on lead, Griffo on bass and Trev on drums)...
J Colleran launched Gardenia last Saturday at The Complex Dublin with the first of the live shows from this project... In association with Hidden Agenda and Grayscale... It was a pleasure to hear this come together down at The Meadow when Rían Trench was recording the orchestrations he did for the album release on Because Music...

Photos from Katie Kim & Crash Ensemble at Salt Interventions show at The Grand Social in 2017… Spud recorded the gig and it is soon to be released as a Live Album… There will aslo be a special launch show at The National Concert Hall in November this year….
Couple of ‘Joints’ from Magic Pockets supporting Noveller this time last year in the Bello Bar. There was some new tunes in that set. Deaf Brothers recently had Ru down in The Meadow tracking some of those new tunes for a new Magic Pockets record.
Joints and Shots from Noveller gig at the Bello Bar this time last year. Sarah Lipstate has toured with some of the best in the game and her unique use of the guitar and effects create a unique soundscape. This gig was one of the best of 2017.
Here is the first joint from the Panik Attaks recent recording sessions with The Deaf Brothers down in The Meadow. There will be a load more photos and vids from these sessions. The first video I put together for Psychotic Delusions got dropped today and I can’t wait for more of this stuff to appear. The Panik Attaks play a headline show in Dublin next month. Gonna be a riot.
First Release of the year... Been working on a bunch of stuff with Fat Pablo the past year or so with Rían... Great to see it appear and the video looks killer...
